I was going into town on Sunday (22nd April) when all of a sudden the traffic ground to a halt. As we sat there and waited, I suddenly realised that it was the traditional St Georges Day parade that grinds the traffic to a halt. I sat there looking out of the window for about 15 minutes as all the Scouts, Guides etc. trooped past, and thought how wonderful that these people at least are celebrating our national day.
We parked in the Market Place car park and walked to the town centre only to pass a sign, with the councils ‘logo’ plastered all over it, saying “Happy Vaishali” – a sikh celebration that marks the creation of the Khalsa.
No sign from Doncaster council marking our patron saints day – though they probably don’t know who that is
